Things we do for the planet

We believe in changing the way the washroom services sector approaches sustainability. Part of our environmental commitment is to assess our operations’ impact on the planet and build measurable plans to reduce our operating impact

A Carbon Neutral Service

We understand the need to remove Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions from our activities; however, we are aware that this reduction process can take time to implement as processes and technologies adapt to support this endeavour. Whilst we are actively reducing our emissions as much as possible, we are also taking responsibility for what remains by offsetting 100% of our emissions.

Supporting Marine Conservation

We’re passionate about working with charities that share our corporate ambition – making a measurable difference to our planet. We’ve partnered with Sea Changers, a UK marine conservation charity that provides grants to marine charities and non-profits for conservation and research projects.

Like us, they share our passion for marine life and dealing with waste in a sustainable and responsible way.

Sustainable Supply chains

Partnering with businesses in our supply chain that share our ethical and sustainable values is important to us.

Product life cycles

We seek to make our business a force for good and know our products and services can be delivered in an ethical and sustainable way. Where possible, we use raw materials in our products and choose those that can be easily reused or recycled at the end of their life cycle. This approach has led to many industry firsts.

We were the first business in our sector to develop and use feminine hygiene units made from recycled materials – significantly reducing the environmental impact of this service.

Ethical Waste management

We made a commitment when we started our Simply Washrooms journey that we’d never send any of the hygiene waste we collect to landfill. It’s a promise we’ve kept.

While an essential part of our everyday lives, disposing of hygiene waste products is an environmental and financial burden for businesses. Typically, it’s collected and sent to landfill sites around the country where it takes centuries to decompose.

All the hygiene waste we collect is taken to our transfer station where it’s sorted for recycling and recovery. The waste we collect is never sent to landfill.

From here, its collected and sent to local energy from waste (EfW) plants where it’s turned into a renewable fuel source which is used to power our homes, hospitals, schools, and businesses.

Emission reduction programmes

As a service partner, we have unavoidable movement of people and vehicles to our clients’ premises. We’re working hard to minimise the impact this has on the plant by investing in our electric and low carbon fleet.  We also offset our road fuel purchasing through a carbon offsetting initiative that funds climate action programmes.
